When VAT applies in Kazakhstan
VAT is charged on the sale of goods and services within Kazakhstan by payers registered for VAT. Buyers who are VAT payers can offset input tax when calculating their obligations to the budget.
Certain transactions are taxed at 0%: export of goods, international transport, sale of certain services to non-residents. The full list is in the VAT section of the Tax Code of Kazakhstan.
How to check a VAT payer
Before a deal, make sure the counterparty is registered for VAT: otherwise you won’t be able to offset input tax.
